CER Associate President and Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of
the British Commonwealth, Sir Jonathan Sacks called for a covenant of Europe at
a keynote speech to the plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Chief Rabbi Sacks said that dialogue lies at the roots of European civilization,
but is not enough on its own. He praised the dialogue between Christianity and Judaism,
but said dialogue may not be enough since "dialogue cant always keep us together
if other forces drive us apart."

'The White House', a new outreach centre in the heart of the former East Berlin, was opened on Sunday, November 16 by the President of the World Jewish Congress, Ambassador Ronald Lauder.
The location is the new home of Am Echad, the outreach division of Lauder Yeshurun in Germany. Mr Lauder founded the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation over twenty years ago and has been a major figure behind the revival of Jewish life in Eastern Europe over that period.

Czech President pledges support to protect
shechita in Europe
Giyurim to be accepted in Europe only by recognised Batei Din in cooperation with
CER
Over 300 rabbis from some 30 European countries attended the CER Convention in
Prague
which centred on the pivotal issues affecting European Jewish communities including
outreach and conversion policy.
Marking the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the Convention began
with a memorial ceremony at the monument to Czech Jews deported to the Nazi death
camps. CER Standing Committee Chairman, Chief Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt recited
the hazkarah and CER Executive Director Rabbi Aba Dunner said kaddish.
