European Rabbis condemn knife attack at Moscow synagogueThe Conference of European Rabbis (CER) strongly condemns the vicious knife attack on worshippers at the Bronnaya synagogue in Moscow on Wednesday which left 11 people injured. CER Secretary-General Rabbi Aba Dunner said the attack comes amid a sharp rise in anti-Semitic and racial attacks in Russia and is a warning to Russian authorities of the menace of racist and fascist groups in the country. "We have long warned of the dangers of the unchecked rise of far-right ideologies in Russia. This cowardly attack serves as a reminder that the jump from hate speech and hate propaganda to actual violence is all too short. Serious measures to combat this menace need to be enacted immediately by the authorities," Rabbi Dunner said. The CER wishes the victims of this attack a speedy recovery from their injuries. The Conference of European Rabbis federates Jewish religious leaders in over 40 European states and includes all the continent’s chief rabbis and senior rabbinical judges. The CER holds consultancy status as a recognised international NGO at the Council of Europe and within the institutions of the European Union.
