Croatia government recognises Zagreb Jewish community

Print this ArticleLondon - 21-Jul-06

The Conference of European Rabbis extends its best wishes to the Bet Israel Jewish Community of Croatia under the spiritual leadership of Chief Rabbi Kotel Dadon upon its official recognition by the government of Croatia.

The community, which is based in the capital Zagreb, said it desired to establish contact with the state institutions, religious communities, non-governmental organizations, representatives of foreign countries and international institutions in the Republic of Croatia and all international Jewish organizations all over the world.

Bet Israel is comprised of the majority of the persons of the Jewish faith in Zagreb, and during the next several months is set to initiate various religious, cultural and other activities according to the traditions of the Jewish communities in the Diaspora and Croatia.

The community also proudly announces that this year they will also formally commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish Community in Zagreb.

In a letter to Chief Rabbi Dadon, CER Executive Director Rabbi Aba Dunner asked the Chief Rabbi to “pass on the best wishes of the CER to your congregation. We look forward to hearing wonderful things about this community.”
